The ins, outs, and shocks – ANZ Premiership contracting period begins

ANZ Premierships’ contract signing period has started. Big-name players are on the move.

It’s only the opening week of the 2022 ANZ Premiership contract period and it’s off with a hiss and a roar.

With a new tier system in place, teams are looking to build on their 2021 rosters.

It was no surprise that English International Goal Shooter George Fisher was snatched up by Southern Steel for another season but what may have come as a surprise to most fans is the signing of premiership-winning Goal Defence Kate Burley.

With injured players Michaela Sokolich Beatson and new mum Phoenix Karaka looking at making a comeback to the Mystics, it was a smart decision for Burley to move and secure more court time.

Shooting sensation Saviour Tui is also set to make the move south to join fellow ex-Mystics teammate Burley at the Steel.

Yvette Mccausland-Durie hasn’t wasted any time getting back into the head coach position at the Pulse, securing young duo Aaliyah Dunn and newly appointed Silver Ferns squad member Tiana Metuerau.

The two will be combining in the shooting circle, as Metuerau returns home after a year in the deep south.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of the Pulse shapes up with the surprise announcement that Ameliaranne Ekenasio will not be returning to the side in 2022.

Pulse released a statement to disregard commentary that the club had parted ways with Ekenasio suddenly, announcing the club would wait for her to make a statement before commenting further.

With the next few weeks crucial for all the clubs, who will be the next to move?
