Melbourne Derby in Full Swing: SSN Round 11 Review

The Melbourne Derby was set up to be a great battle with the Melbourne Vixens looking to make amends for their last performance against the Collingwood Magpies.

Unfortunately, the Vixens fell short being defeated by the Magpies, 48 to 52.

In what was a scrappy contest between both sides, Vixens took the lead at both quarter time and 1/2 time breaks.

Emily Mannix got the start at Goal Keeper over Kadie-Ann Dehaney and made her presence felt across the court.

Kaylia Stanton started strong and confident by going to post early, yet it was Magpies Jodi-Ann Ward who really started to show her athleticism and skills early on which only continued and got even more impressive throughout the match.

In the 2nd quarter, Magpies made a switch between Kelsey Browne and Molly Jovic in the midcourt which made all the difference in their transition through court.

Magpies took the lead for the first time at the end of the 3rd quarter and pushed on in the last quarter to make it a 4 point win.

In the final quarter, the defensive duo Geva Mentor and Ward, were particularly impressive for the Magpies making feeding to Vixens’ star Mwai Kumwenda a serious challenge for midcourters Kate Moloney and Hannah Mundy.

Player of the Match went to Jodi Ann Ward.
